Snowdown Colliery Band was formed in 1926 with the original membership consisting entirely of miners from the nearby colliery. Despite the closure of the pit, the band has continued to play, maintaining it's links and roots with the former mining community. The band presently consists of approximately 30 players and although only one is an ex-miner, other members are descendants of miners who previously played in the band.
They are a friendly self-supporting organisation who perform at various functions throughout the year, often in partnership with Snowdown Male Voice Choir.
New players are welcome and the band practices every Wednesday night at 7.30pm in the Welfare Club (New Club), Dorman Avenue South, Aylesham.
