Present
Today the village centre is focused around the Market Square
with the provision of a small range of shops, community
café, post office and small Co-operative
supermarket.
There are two primary
schools and the former secondary school now houses the
Aylesham and District Community Workshop
Trust which provides a range of training facilities,
workshop
units, café, nursery and
library.
Churches,
community and
social facilities incorporated in the Working Men’s Clubs also
feature and a new health
centre situated to the edge of the Market Square has
recently opened.
To the west of the village, Cooting Road industrial estate
comprises a range of predominantly local, small scale processing
and warehouse businesses and to the Southern edge of the village is
the Welfare Recreation Ground providing a number of sports pitches
and associated social club.
An exciting redevelopment plan for a new sports centre and
realignment of the sports pitches is a current major project.
